Pieter Cohen, M.D., an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical
School, is known for studying health supplements. He’s the one who
spotted supplements spiked with the amphetamine, BMPEA.
He’s also known for slandering supplements that tread on pharmaceutical
turf. In other words, when Big Pharma starts losing to natural products,
they call in Dr. Cohen to start making false accusations against natural meds...
Recently, Cohen made the blanket statement: “Saw palmetto for prostate
issues is one of the classic examples of supplement snake oil. It’s
touted all over the place, and there is zero evidence that it actually
This is incredulous because if you were looking for the supplement with
the absolute most science behind it, it’d be saw palmetto!
And meanwhile, prostate drugs like Proscar (finasteride), manufactured by
Merck & Company, quickly destroy your manhood, without question!
Within three weeks of starting Proscar, you can expect to experience:
- Sore and aching muscles, starting from the neck and going down your back
- Heart palpitations
After three months, you’ll begin to notice:
- Breast enlargement
- Genital shrinking
- Decreased sexual ability
- Blurred vision
- Cold Like symptoms
Why isn’t Cohen going after ridiculous prescription meds like Proscar?
Meanwhile, studies have demonstrated that saw palmetto is effective in
relieving all of the major symptoms of BPH, including increased nighttime
urinary frequency, the most bothersome complaint!
In a one-year, randomized clinical trial reported in European Urology in
2002, 811 men with BPH (ages fifty to eighty-five years) were recruited to
compare the effects of saw palmetto extract to the prescription drug Flomax
(tamsulosin) for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms. Results
showed saw palmetto to be superior to Flomax, and free of side effects.
Another randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 200 men with
BPH, published in the medical journal Lancet, showed that beta-sitosterol
(found in saw palmetto) improved urine flow and reduced the amount of
residual urine remaining in the bladder.
Already, saw palmetto has a better track record than popular BPH meds…oh
yea, and no side effects were seen!
Technically a plant, the fruit of saw palmetto has been used as a form of
medicine to decrease or eliminate symptoms of an enlarged prostate for
hundreds if not thousands of years - as proven by ethnobotanists around the
As a natural sedative, it also promotes relaxation.
As an aphrodisiac, it enhances sex drive.
Cohen can diss saw palmetto all he wants…but it just makes him look
really ignorant on the subject of medicine…and his ultimate objective of
being a Big Pharma watchdog all too obvious.
If he was truly sympathetic to patients, he’d be dissing prostate meds
which are among the least effective and most dangerous. At the same time,
he could show how 99.99999% of all saw palmetto products:
- Lack the effective dose
- Are packed with toxic additives like vitamin D
- Are made with “veggie caps,” which is a euphemism for industry glue
that binds the intestines
- And so much more…
Saw palmetto in the doses given in Palmetto + is proven to have
anti-androgenic effects, which slow or stop prostate growth, thanks to
inhibiting inflammatory compounds known as - 5-alpha-reductase, prolactin
growth factor and estrogen.
